Seattle Resident Receives Prestigious Award for Amazing Home Renovation

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) recently awarded the prestigious Best in American Living Award (BALA) to The Book House, naming it the Remodel of the Year for 2014. The home remodeling project was also declared the winner of the Pacific Northwest Regional.

The owner also wanted to enhance the dark spaces of the interior. The idea was to maintain the charm of the early architecture while creating a more accessible, brighter and fresher residence with a few modern contraptions.

The project involved constructing a two-car garage that featured a beautiful space for a live-in caretaker or studio. A new staircase spiraled along the exterior of the garage, creating an architectural masterpiece for the lucky tenant.

According to Seattle PI, the new materials enhance the old ambience; these include structural, architectural and blackened steel beams, columns and a staircase, which combine with elegant rift white-oak floors, interior doors, casework and minimalistic trims. A level-five drywall was created in the flat and straight building to encase a large collection of bookshelves and art.

The master suite sits on the upper floor and is accessible by an elevator. It boasts stylish, sophisticated décor with contemporary fixtures and finishes. The aim of this part of the project was to maximize an astounding view of the lake and mountains, offering endless relaxation for its residents.

Home remodeling experts agree that it is not easy to renovate a building in a way that the final project seamlessly complements the house. New materials typically stand out from the old counterparts; however, this particular project is both charming and elegant. The changes enhance the original architecture without detracting from it in any way. The building is truly a marvel of home renovation.

BALA has been recognizing the best building and design professionals for 31 years. The award pays tribute to their efforts to improve the standards of living throughout each sector of the residential housing industry, including custom, rental, interior, affordable, single-family production, international, community and remodeling.
